As Bihar gears up for the 2025 Assembly elections, allegations of electoral irregularities have surfaced. Concerns have been raised regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll, with claims of deceased individuals being included and eligible voters omitted. A notable incident involves Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav, son of party chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, who asserted his name was absent from the Election Commission’s draft voter list despite submitting the necessary enumeration form. Yadav questioned how he would participate in the upcoming elections. Janata Dal (United) responded, accusing Yadav of misleading the public. The Patna district administration, however, countered these claims, stating that Yadav’s name is registered, though his polling station and serial number had been changed. Yadav expressed concerns about potential manipulation of the voter list, questioning the number of individuals whose information had been altered. The Election Commission refuted Yadav’s claim, confirming his name appears in the draft electoral roll. JDU’s chief spokesperson Neeraj Kumar labeled Yadav a ‘political fraud’. The SIR process is currently underway, allowing voters and political parties to file objections regarding discrepancies in the electoral roll between August 1st and September 1st, 2025.
