Muzaffarpur, Bihar witnessed a narrow escape from disaster when a tormented husband lay on railway tracks, announcing his suicide via video call to his wife amid taunts over his joblessness. Alert citizens intervened at the last moment, dragging him from harm’s way and giving him a second chance at life.

This hair-raising event occurred beneath the Bhagwanpur overbridge along a busy rail corridor. Hailing from Sikandarpur, the man had endured endless domestic battles. Unable to find work, he faced daily barbs from his spouse, who blamed him for their hardships. Overwhelmed, he chose the tracks as his final stand, lying prone as a train neared.

In a poignant twist captured on video, he dialed his wife during the act. Displaying his phone screen, he stated flatly, ‘A train will end me now.’ The footage, circulating rapidly on social media, captures the raw desperation of a man at his lowest.

Fortune favored him when vigilant passersby noticed the scene. Without hesitation, they rushed forward, hauling the man off the rails seconds before the locomotive sped by. Their swift response prevented a heartbreaking loss.

Post-rescue, as the shock wore off, he poured out his grievances. Prolonged unemployment meant unfulfilled promises to his family, igniting frequent quarrels. ‘She mocks me relentlessly, denies me meals,’ he revealed through tears, exposing layers of mental anguish.

The rescuers played therapist, offering solace and life-affirming advice for over an hour. Convinced of his resolve to carry on, they escorted him back home. Netizens are hailing the strangers’ courage, but the story underscores Bihar’s growing struggles with job scarcity and its toll on mental well-being.
