A woman in Bihar has been sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of one lakh rupees under the state’s prohibition law. This marks the first time a woman has been sentenced under this law. The court found the woman guilty of illegally selling alcohol. The case originated in Bagaha district, where the woman was arrested three years ago for manufacturing and selling liquor. During the arrest, authorities seized 32 liters of local liquor, 80 kilograms of semi-finished liquor, and equipment used for making alcohol. The court, presided over by Special Judge Rajiv Kumar Dwivedi, delivered the verdict, emphasizing the seriousness of the offense. The woman will face an additional six months in jail if she fails to pay the fine. After the sentencing, she was taken to Bagaha jail under tight security. The prosecution, led by SPP Anwar Hussain Ansari, presented the state’s arguments during the trial.
