    With the upcoming Bihar assembly elections drawing near, political parties are intensifying their preparations. The Congress party is actively gearing up for the elections. As part of these efforts, meetings of the Bihar Pradesh Congress Screening Committee will be held on August 13th and 14th at Sadaqat Ashram. On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Dr. Shashibhushan Prasad, the state spokesperson of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), celebrated Raksha Bandhan with visually impaired girls at the Antar Jyoti Balika Vidyalaya in Kumhrar, Patna. Here’s a look at the major news from Bihar.

    1. Congress Screening Committee Meetings on August 13th and 14th:
    Meetings of the Screening Committee for the upcoming 2025 assembly elections will be organized by the Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee on August 13th and 14th, 2025, at Sadaqat Ashram. These meetings will involve discussions on political situations with potential candidates from various districts. Rajesh Rathore, the Chairman of the Pradesh Congress Media Department, said that the three in-charge secretaries will gather detailed information from the candidates from their respective districts and then present it to the Screening Committee. The three in-charges will meet the candidates from their districts.

    On August 13th, in-charge secretaries Sushil Pasi and Devendra Yadav will hold discussions with potential candidates from West Champaran, East Champaran, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Madhubani, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Nalanda, Patna City, Patna Rural 1 and 2, Bhojpur, Buxar, Rohtas, Kaimur, and Gaya districts. On August 14th, 2025, in-charge secretaries Devendra Yadav and Shahnawaz Alam will meet potential candidates from Jehanabad, Arwal, Aurangabad, Nawada, Sheikhpura, Jamui, Saharsa, Supaul, Madhepura, Araria, Purnia, Kishanganj, Katihar, Bhagalpur, Banka, Munger, Lakhisarai, Begusarai, and Khagaria districts.

    2. Congress Organizes Tiranga Yatra on August Kranti Diwas:
    On the 83rd anniversary of the ‘Quit India Movement’, the Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee paid floral tributes to the martyrs at the Shaheed Smarak on Saturday and pledged to maintain the unity and integrity of the nation. Additionally, the Congress Seva Dal organized a Tiranga March from Sadaqat Ashram to the Shaheed Smarak. The Tiranga Yatra passed through Sadaqat Ashram, LCT Ghat, Rajapur, Boring Road Chauraha, High Court Mor, Veerchand Patel Path and concluded at the Shaheed Smarak, located in front of the Assembly gate, where a tribute meeting and pledge program took place.

    After paying floral tributes at the Shaheed Smarak, Bihar Congress President Rajesh Ram administered the pledge to all Congress members. He said that this country has been a land of sacrifice, dedication, and martyrs. Many sacrifices have been made to make this country united, and we have further strengthened it through Gandhian policies. We, the Congress members, resolve to fight to maintain the unity and integrity of this country until our last breath. Our history has been one of sacrifice, and we have nurtured this country.

    3. Visually Impaired Girls Tie Rakhi to LJP Ram Vilas Spokesperson:
    On the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Dr. Shashibhushan Prasad, the state spokesperson of Lok Janshakti Party, Ram Vilas, celebrated Raksha Bandhan with visually impaired girls at the Antar Jyoti Balika Vidyalaya in Kumhrar, Patna. On this occasion, a large number of girls studying in the school tied rakhis on his wrists. Dr. Shashibhushan Prasad also distributed sweets among these children and provided them with clothes. He stated that he would always be ready to assist these sisters. He also provided financial assistance to the school management from his organization. Several other people were present on the occasion along with the school management staff.

    4. BJP MLA Feeds Orphan Children:
    On the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, Dr. Sanjeev Chaurasia, the Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from the Digha assembly constituency of the capital, fed orphan children at Rajvanshi Nagar in the capital and had rakhis tied by the orphan girls. JDU leader Kamal Nopani, along with several other social workers, was present on this occasion.

    5. CM Nitish Kumar Ties Raksha Sutra to a Tree:
    Chief Minister Nitish Kumar tied a raksha sutra to a tree at the Rajdhani Vatika in Patna on Saturday on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan and ‘Bihar Tree Protection Day’. The Chief Minister also planted a sapling at Rajdhani Vatika on this occasion. It is noteworthy that the Chief Minister launched ‘Bihar Tree Protection Day’ on the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan on August 13, 2012. Its objective is to make people aware of the environment, conserve plants, and plant more and more trees.

    Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Dr. Sunil Kumar, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr. S. Siddharth, Additional Chief Secretary of the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department Harjot Kaur, Special Officer to the Chief Minister Gopal Singh, Patna Divisional Commissioner Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh, Patna District Magistrate Dr. Thyagarajan SM, Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya K. Sharma, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Prabhat Kumar Gupta, along with other senior officials, were present on this occasion.
