A significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Bihar government and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) on Monday at Bihar Niwas in New Delhi. The agreement aims to facilitate the development of six airports in the state. The signing took place in the presence of Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena. Five airports owned by the Bihar government — Birpur, Valmikinagar, Saharsa, Madhubani, and Munger — along with the AAI-owned Muzaffarpur airport, have been identified under the Government of India’s UDAN scheme. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has approved ₹25 crore for each airport. A Pre-Feasibility Study was conducted by the Bihar government for all six airports. This MoU was finalized following approval from the Bihar Cabinet. The MoU was signed by Executive Director Anami Pandey from AAI and Director of Civil Aviation Dr. Nilesh Ramchandra Devre from the Bihar government. Senior officials including the Chief Secretary and Kundan Kumar (Local Commissioner, Bihar) from the Bihar government, and Member (Finance) and other senior officers from AAI were present at the event. This agreement marks a historic step towards strengthening regional air connectivity in the state, which will ensure rapid economic and social development in the remote areas of Bihar.
