    Political circles in Bihar are in turmoil following a death threat issued to SDM East of Muzaffarpur before the elections. The incident unfolded when SDM Amit Kumar received a threatening message on WhatsApp. The message, sent from an unknown number, demanded extortion. When the SDM responded, he was threatened with reputational damage. The threatening message was received on the evening of August 15th.

    Amit Kumar was threatened by a former JDU leader via WhatsApp. This incident has created a stir in the administrative and political circles of the district. Following the threat, the SDM promptly filed a written complaint at the Sadar police station. SDM East has lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at the Sadar police station under serious sections, including obstructing government work, extortion, and damaging reputation.

    Police arrested Sanjeev Kumar Rajan from Patahi after quick action. The individual identified as the one who sent the threats, Sanjeev Kumar Rajan, is a former JDU district vice-president (Mahanagar Kisan Prakoshth). He was the metropolitan vice-president of the Kisan Prakoshth three years ago. Rambabu Singh Kushwaha, the JDU district president, stated that he was a former office bearer of the Kisan Prakoshth, but currently has no connection with the party.

    Vinita Sinha, City DSP II, stated that the police arrested the accused after registering the FIR. He was presented in court and sent to judicial custody. The police deny that the accused has any association with any political party. They are investigating the accused’s criminal record.

    SDO East Amit Kumar stated in the FIR that he was on a government assignment in Patahi on August 15th at 7:55 PM. During this time, he received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number. Extortion was demanded, threats were made, and there was a threat of damaging his reputation. Following the threat, he filed an FIR at the Sadar police station against the holder of the mobile number from which the call was made.
