Ahead of the upcoming Bihar assembly elections later this year, former minister Renu Kushwaha, along with her husband Vijay Kushwaha, has joined the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). The announcement was made at a function held in Patna on Wednesday, June 25th, in the presence of Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition and former Deputy Chief Minister. Renu Kushwaha’s move is seen as significant, with the RJD aiming to consolidate its support base. Several other leaders also joined the RJD including Raghvendra Singh Kushwaha, the former state president of Pappu Yadav’s Jan Adhikar Party (JAP). Renu Kushwaha previously held positions in the Janata Dal United (JDU) and the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP). She is recognized as a prominent figure in Bihar politics. Her joining the RJD is seen as potentially beneficial for the party and a setback for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

Tejashwi Yadav shared the news on social media, stating that numerous dignitaries had joined the party at a meeting held at the state party office. He also criticized the current government, stating that people from all sections of society are fed up with the 20-year-old NDA government. Renu Kushwaha is a three-time MLA and a former Member of Parliament. She has also served as a minister in Bihar twice. She comes from Khagaria, Bihar, and was an MP from Khagaria on a JDU ticket. She is considered an influential figure from the backward classes in Bihar politics, known for her social work and efforts in women’s empowerment.
