Significant changes are expected in Bihar’s political landscape. Former MP and ex-JDU National Vice President Mungani Lal Mandal is set to become the new state president of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). According to party sources, Mandal’s name has been finalized, and he will file his nomination at the party office on June 14th, in the presence of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav.

Discussions about changes within the RJD organization have been ongoing for some time. The departure of the current state president, Jagdanand Singh, is almost certain. It’s believed that the party is now working on a strategy to give new leadership a chance at the state level, with the aim of strengthening its hold on the Extremely Backward Classes and other social groups in the upcoming assembly elections.

Mandal was previously associated with the RJD but later joined the JDU, where he served as the National Vice President. However, in January 2025, he left the JDU and rejoined the RJD. During his return to the RJD, he stated that injustice was being done to the Extremely Backward Classes in the JDU, and there was no internal democracy left.

According to sources, the formal announcement of Mungani Lal Mandal’s appointment as RJD state president will be made on July 5th. This move by the party is seen as a major effort to appease the Extremely Backward Classes. This change signals a significant shift in the RJD’s strategy, as the party prepares to re-enter the upcoming elections with renewed vigor.

Both the Mahagathbandhan and NDA are adjusting their strategies in light of rapidly changing political dynamics in the lead up to the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. New parties are also becoming active in the electoral arena. This election indicates new equations and changes in Bihar’s politics. Prashant Kishor has predicted the ouster of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Nitish Kumar from power in the upcoming assembly elections. His campaign is focused on clean politics and bringing about a change in leadership.
