The Nitish Kumar government in Bihar has transferred seven thousand rupees to the accounts of over 6.51 lakh families. This financial aid was not part of any specific government scheme but was provided as compensation to those affected by recent floods. Several districts, including Buxar, Bhagalpur, Arrah, and Katihar, experienced severe flooding, leading to displacement and significant damage to crops.

In response, the government allocated funds, sending seven thousand rupees to the bank accounts of 651,602 families. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had previously conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas. The funds were distributed during an event in Patna, and the Chief Minister shared the information on X (formerly Twitter).

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced on X that a total of 456.12 crore rupees was transferred via DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) at a rate of 7000 rupees per family to aid flood-affected families residing at 1, Aney Marg. He emphasized that the disaster victims have the first claim on the state’s treasury and highlighted the government’s continuous efforts to work in the interest of the state’s residents. He also cautioned people to remain vigilant in September.

Approximately 38 lakh people across more than 60 blocks in 12 districts have been affected by the rising water levels of several rivers, including the Ganges. This includes districts such as Patna, Begusarai, Munger, and Nalanda. The flood threat in Bihar remains, and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has instructed officials to remain on alert. He has also directed that all possible assistance be provided to the flood-affected families.
