The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Odisha is set to elect its new state president, with the election process commencing this Sunday. Pratap Sarangi, the state election officer and Member of Parliament, announced the timeline on Saturday. Sanjay Jaiswal, a Member of Parliament from Bihar, has been appointed by the Central Election Officer to oversee the three-day organizational election, which is scheduled to conclude by July 1st. Jaiswal will visit Odisha following the issuance of the election notification. Sarangi emphasized the importance of a leader who can unify and effectively lead the party, highlighting the BJP’s commitment to an internal democratic process. The electoral college voters list will be released on June 29. Candidates can file nominations on June 30, followed by scrutiny and the publication of the final list with election symbols. Voting will take place on July 1, with results announced shortly thereafter. This election is crucial for the Odisha BJP, particularly as it aims to strengthen its organizational structure in the state, where the government, led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, recently completed its first year, focusing on developmental initiatives. The BJP conducts these organizational elections every three years, starting at the local level and culminating in the election of the national president. Elections for local, mandal, and district committees have already been completed in Odisha. The party previously announced the presidents of 23 out of 37 organizational districts in January. The state party will become eligible to participate in the election of the national president after the state party president is elected.
