An unconventional wedding took place in the Bhagalpur district of Bihar. With no band, no luxury cars, and no DJ, the groom and his wedding party arrived on a boat. The reason? The area was inundated due to floods. The groom, Devmuni Kumar, along with his baraat, traveled by boat to the bride’s village and the bride was later taken back in the same manner. The unusual wedding is now the talk of the town.

The groom’s journey, which would typically involve a luxury car, instead commenced on a boat. This event unfolded in the Bakharpur village of Pirpainti block in Bhagalpur. The village has been severely affected by the floodwaters of the Ganges, which have been present for two weeks. To cover the 35 kilometers to his bride’s village in Katihar district, Devmuni Kumar had to navigate by boat. The rivers in Bihar and Nepal are overflowing following heavy rainfall.

The groom’s father, Ramdev Mandal, shared that the wedding date had been fixed a month prior. However, the devastating floods in the Ganges changed their plans. The only route to the bride’s village, Katakoash in the Manihari block of Katihar district, was by boat. About 25 to 30 people attended the wedding. The groom recounted that the journey took about 8 hours. All the wedding essentials, including furniture, were transported back to the groom’s house by boat as well. The lack of the usual fanfare left the groom feeling disappointed, as he had hoped for a grand celebration.
