Chennai police responded swiftly to a bomb threat email targeting the Mylapore residence of Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Friday. The alert, received by the Estate Police Station, claimed explosives were planted at the property. Senior officials, bomb detection units, and K9 squads were deployed to the location. However, investigations revealed that the Vice President had not resided at the Mylapore address for over a year, having moved to a rented apartment in Poes Garden. Security protocols were then initiated at his current residence. Upon arrival, the premises were found locked, precluding an immediate physical search. Following a preliminary assessment of the vicinity, authorities concluded the threat was likely a hoax. The origin of the email is now under investigation, adding to a growing pattern of false bomb threats directed at prominent individuals and institutions in Chennai. This incident echoes similar widespread hoax threats that have impacted over 150 schools in Delhi and Bengaluru since July, causing significant disruption and alarm. Authorities are working with cybercrime units to trace the perpetrators, some of whom have been identified as minors.
