The Chhattisgarh government is undertaking a significant project to construct approximately 3,000 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) to assist families impacted by Naxal violence and former extremists who have surrendered. This initiative, approved by the Central Government at the state’s request, is part of a larger effort to provide 15,000 homes to families ineligible under standard PMAY criteria. Currently, housing approvals have been granted to 3,000 families out of the 5,000 identified, with the first installment disbursed to 2,111 families and the second to 128. Construction is proceeding rapidly, even in remote and forested areas. Notable examples include Sodi Hungi from Sukma and Dashri Bai from Kanker, who completed their homes in just three months despite challenging terrains and logistical hurdles. The project aims to provide safe and permanent housing, fostering stability and rehabilitation for affected communities, with strong support from government authorities and local administrations.
