A devastating train accident in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur district has claimed at least eight lives. The tragedy occurred Tuesday afternoon when a passenger MEMU train, en route from Gevra to Bilaspur, collided with a stationary goods train near Jairamnagar station. The severe impact crushed the front coaches of the passenger train, trapping passengers and leading to a frantic rescue operation.

Eyewitness footage captured the chaotic moments following the collision, showing smoke billowing from the mangled wreckage and passengers scrambling to safety. Rescue teams from the Railways, local authorities, and the NDRF are working tirelessly to extricate survivors from the debris. Medical aid has been deployed, with some injured receiving treatment within the train due to difficult access.

Officials confirmed that eight bodies have been recovered, with efforts underway to free one of the loco pilots still trapped in the severely damaged section. The collision has significantly disrupted rail traffic, causing cancellations and diversions of several trains. Infrastructure damage, including overhead electrical lines and signalling systems, is being assessed. An investigation has been launched to determine the precise cause of this tragic event, with repair crews working around the clock to restore services.
