47 Inmates at Raigarh District Jail to Observe Fast During Sharadiya Navratri

During the Sharadiya Navratri festival, 47 inmates of the Raigarh District Jail will observe fasts. This includes 40 male and 7 female inmates. According to District Jail Superintendent G.S. Shori, out of the total 800 inmates, 47 have expressed their desire to fast during Navratri. Recognizing the faith and devotion of these inmates, the jail administration has made special arrangements. Among the fasting inmates, 30 will observe the fast for all 9 days, while the remaining 17 will fast on the fifth and eighth days. Separate barracks have been arranged for them to facilitate peaceful prayer and devotional singing. Their diet during the fast will also be taken care of, with fruit-based meals replacing their regular meals. The Superintendent also stated that arrangements have been made for worship materials, the installation of a Kalash, and musical instruments for devotional singing. To provide the inmates with a religious atmosphere during Navratri, the jail premises have been cleaned and made peaceful. This effort by the jail management not only respects the religious sentiments of the inmates but also reflects a reformative approach. Superintendent Shori believes that religious events help foster positivity and self-reflection among the inmates, which can aid in their rehabilitation.
