Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has announced that the last rites of democracy fighters in the state will now be conducted with state honors. In addition to this, their families will also receive financial assistance of ₹25,000. The announcement was made during an Emergency Remembrance Day event held at the CM House. Cabinet ministers, MLAs, and MPs were also present at the event, where democracy fighters were also honored. Chief Minister Sai criticized the previous Congress government, stating that it had discontinued the schemes for democracy fighters. He noted that the fighters did not receive their financial assistance in the past five years. The current government will provide the outstanding dues. The Chief Minister described the Emergency as a dark chapter in India’s democratic history, which every generation should know. He also mentioned that his family was affected, with his grand uncle spending 19 months in jail. He witnessed many families facing devastation due to the arrest of their earning members. The Chief Minister stated that taking care of democracy fighters is the government’s moral responsibility, emphasizing the government’s commitment to protect their respect and rights. This decision is considered a true tribute to the respect and contribution of the fighters who struggled to protect democracy.
