Chhattisgarh’s agricultural sector is buzzing with economic activity following a record-breaking paddy procurement drive for the Kharif marketing year 2025-26. Under the administration of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, the state has successfully purchased 105.14 lakh metric tons of paddy from 17.77 lakh farmers by January 13, 2026. Crucially, these farmers have seen a massive ₹23,448 crore credited directly to their accounts, setting a new precedent for support to the farming community.

This fiscal year’s performance starkly contrasts with previous years. For context, as of January 13, 2020-21, only 72.15 LMT of paddy was procured, with ₹13,550 crore paid. In 2021-22, the figures were 68.77 LMT and ₹13,410 crore, respectively. Even the 2022-23 season, which saw a higher farmer participation with 22.14 lakh farmers, procured 97.67 LMT for ₹20,022 crore. The current season has not only surpassed previous procurement volumes but has also set a new benchmark for direct financial benefit to farmers.

The success is attributed to the state government’s robust and transparent procurement framework, coupled with its commitment to prompt payments. This farmer-centric approach has fostered a deep sense of trust, leading to increased participation and economic upliftment in rural areas. The government has also emphasized stringent oversight on storage and procurement processes, initiating disciplinary actions against any personnel found responsible for discrepancies or negligence to safeguard the integrity of the procurement system.
