    Raipur. Raipur Press Club officials submitted a memorandum to Home Minister Vijay Sharma regarding the murder of Bijapur journalist Mukesh Chandrakar and demanded immediate action against the accused. There was also discussion regarding the safety of journalists.

    General Secretary of Raipur Press Club, Dr. Vaibhav Shiv Pandey, while talking to Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Vijay Sharma, said that young journalist Mukesh Chandrakar has been brutally murdered in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh. The reason behind the murder was Mukesh’s impartial and outspoken journalism. He exposed cases of corruption in Bijapur area. He had to pay the price for this with his life. There is anger and mourning in the journalism world of the country due to the death of Mukesh.

    Officials of Raipur Press Club told the Home Minister that the Vice President of our Raipur Press Club, Sandeep Shukla, has also been threatened with death by the Forest Department officer for exposing the corruption case in Gariaband. Journalists keep receiving similar threats from time to time. From past and present incidents it appears that it has become easy to threaten and kill journalists. Under these circumstances, you are requested to take concrete initiatives towards ensuring the safety of journalists in the state.
