A unique story has emerged from the Gariaband district of Chhattisgarh. A man residing in the Mainpur block decided to quit his job as a bus driver and embrace horseback riding. Not only that, but Nakul and his family now exclusively use horses for transportation. He’s also found work offering horseback riding services in his area. Nakul cited concerns about the dangers of high-speed travel on roads as his reason for leaving his driving job and becoming a farmer and rider.

Nakul BC, 48, from Banuwapara in Mainpur block, made the switch from driving. He and his family have relied on horses for travel for the past 10 years. He owns two horses. He began his career in transportation at age 20, starting as a bus conductor before becoming a driver.

Why did he quit his job?

There were no proper roads to the district headquarters from Nakul’s village of Banuwapara. Earning a modest salary of 10,000 rupees, he struggled to support his two children and wife. Moreover, the risks associated with speeding on the roads were significant. Ten years ago, Nakul decided to make a change. Using the earnings from corn farming, he first purchased a horse. After writing letters about roads, employment, and the system, which didn’t yield results, he began traveling by horse. After farming, he earns extra income by providing horseback riding services.

    His Reasoning

Nakul explained that his job brought constant stress, both for himself and his family. He was often away from home, and he rarely got to spend time with his family. Since he began farming and horseback riding, he’s been able to stay with his family and earn more than he did as a driver. He uses his free time after farming to offer horseback riding services.
