A shocking case has emerged from Durg, Chhattisgarh, where a woman’s own sister orchestrated the kidnapping and sale of her 8-month-old nephew. Sukhairin Bai, a resident of Kasaridih, reported that her sister, Sangini, abducted and sold her infant son. Police launched an investigation, leading to the apprehension of five individuals connected to a criminal gang operating in Bihar. The arrested individuals include a retired FCI (Food Corporation of India) employee, a quack doctor, the woman, her boyfriend, and an associate.

The investigation revealed that the retired FCI employee, Gauri Mahto, desired an heir due to family disputes and the need for a successor to his property. He contacted a local doctor, Badal, also known as Mithlesh, to arrange for a child. A deal was struck for ₹7 lakh (approximately $8,400). The plan involved the abduction of the baby.

The victim informed the police that her elder sister, Sangini, who works in an orchestra in Patna, invited her for a visit in June. Sukhairin was kept in a single room for five days. On July 8th, Sangini and her boyfriend accompanied Sukhairin to the train station. They provided her with a ticket and then fled with the baby. After the train departed, Sukhairin became suspicious and filed a police report.

The police investigation uncovered that Sangini lured her younger sister to Patna as part of the kidnapping plot. She handed the baby to Pradeep, who then gave the child to the doctor. The doctor sold the child to the retired employee, Gauri Mahto, for ₹7 lakh. The investigation also revealed the doctor was operating a clinic without proper qualifications.

Pradeep and Santosh were responsible for bringing patients to the doctor’s clinic from rural areas in exchange for a commission. Following the exposure of the entire racket, the police arrested Sangini, Santosh Pal, Pradeep Kumar, Dr. Badal, and Gauri Mahto. They were brought to Durg on transit remand and presented in court on Friday, where they were remanded to judicial custody.
