The incidence of Tomato Flu is rapidly increasing in Bilaspur. A significant number of children, aged nine months to seven years, are being affected by this new illness. Symptoms include fever, abdominal pain, red rashes on hands, feet, and back, and mouth ulcers. Parents are seeking treatment for their children at government and private hospitals in large numbers daily.

Hospital superintendent Dr. Lakhan Singh reported an increase in flu cases but could not confirm that they are all Tomato Flu cases. Tomato Flu is a self-limiting disease, meaning it resolves on its own within a few days. However, general medications and rest are recommended to alleviate symptoms. Experts advise that children experiencing severe discomfort should seek immediate medical attention. Schools are the primary locations where children are contracting the illness. Parents are being advised by school management and teachers to keep children home if symptoms appear. Doctors recommend keeping children away from school for at least 7 to 10 days and only returning them when they are fully recovered.

The name Tomato Flu comes from the red, tomato-like rashes that appear on children’s skin. This viral infection spreads rapidly among young children. Experts advise parents to maintain strict hygiene and monitor their children’s diet to prevent infection. Doctors emphasize that the disease is not life-threatening, but caution is necessary due to the potential for transmission. Children should be kept away from crowded places, and medical care should be sought immediately if symptoms appear. Furthermore, medical professionals advise resting at home for any type of viral infection.
