A recent case in Raipur, Chhattisgarh highlights the dangers of online fraud. A 57-year-old insurance advisor, Devendra Singh Rism, fell victim to a sophisticated scam involving a WhatsApp-based wedding invitation. Upon opening the e-card, Rism’s phone was compromised, leading to the theft of Rs 4.80 lakh from his bank account. The incident underscores the growing threat of digital fraud and the importance of caution when interacting with unsolicited messages. Rism reported the incident to the police, and an investigation is underway. The fraudulent activity began when Rism received the malicious e-card on August 19th. Upon opening the card, his phone began malfunctioning and displaying unusual behavior. Subsequently, unauthorized transactions drained money from his account. Rism immediately contacted his bank to block the account and reported the incident to the authorities, highlighting the need for vigilance against such cyber threats.
