The Ministry of Home Affairs has implemented a significant change regarding the security arrangements for the Vice President. The ministry has entrusted the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) with the responsibility of securing the Vice President, encompassing security at his residence, places of stay, surrounding areas, and mobile security. Previously, the Delhi Police held complete responsibility for the Vice President’s security. However, the Ministry of Home Affairs has now assigned the Delhi Police the role of providing security outside the Vice President’s residence and managing vehicle entry.

A senior official from the Ministry of Home Affairs sent an advisory to the CRPF concerning the Vice President’s security. In this advisory, the official requested the CRPF to secure the Vice President in accordance with the provisions outlined in the Blue Book 2025 and to keep the Ministry of Home Affairs informed about the arrangements.

The advisory from the Ministry of Home Affairs to the CRPF clarified that the CRPF would be responsible for the Vice President’s security, including security at his residence, places of stay, surrounding areas, and mobile security, as per the Blue Book-2025 guidelines. The advisory further stated that the Delhi Police would be responsible for entry security and the security around the residence.

The Vice President of the country is provided with Z+ security, a high-level security detail. This security includes approximately 50 personnel working in shifts, with enhanced arrangements for the Vice President’s residence and convoy. It is the second-highest security cover in the country, following the Special Protection Group (SPG) cover provided to the Prime Minister and their family members.

The Blue Book is a security guideline issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, containing special provisions for the security of the President, Vice President, and Prime Minister. Security arrangements for any VVIP are determined based on this Blue Book. Additionally, the book provides detailed information on the number of security personnel and the protocols they are to follow.

It is worth noting that CP Radhakrishnan took oath as the 15th Vice President on Tuesday. He received 452 votes in the election, while the opposition candidate B. Sudarshan Reddy received 300 votes. Radhakrishnan previously served as the Governor of Maharashtra and has been a two-time Member of Parliament from Coimbatore. He joined the RSS at the age of 16.
