Cyclone Montha has significantly weakened after making landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast. Initially a severe cyclonic storm, it has now downgraded to a cyclonic storm and is expected to further diminish into a deep depression within the next 12 hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported the cyclone’s movement northwestward over coastal Andhra Pradesh at approximately 10 kmph. Heavy rainfall and strong winds accompanied its crossing, impacting several coastal districts. The storm’s center is currently located near Narsapur. While the intensity has reduced, authorities have warned of potential flooding in low-lying areas. Initial reports indicate significant damage to standing and horticulture crops across vast hectares in Andhra Pradesh. In Odisha, the cyclone brought heavy rains, causing landslides, damage to homes, and uprooting trees in southern districts, disrupting normal life in over a dozen regions.
