A Delhi court has issued a restraining order against a woman accused of emotionally and sexually harassing a man. The court, addressing a case in Rohini, found evidence of predatory behavior and barred the woman, identified as Nancy, from contacting the man. The ruling underscores that harassment can affect anyone regardless of gender.
The case, Mukesh Taneja vs. Nancy Verma & Anr., involved Mukesh Taneja, who alleged unwanted romantic advances and emotional blackmail, including suicide threats, from Nancy. The interactions began at a spiritual ashram in 2019. Taneja, a married man, rejected her advances, leading to repeated instances of harassment, including disturbances at his home. The court considered evidence such as chats and CCTV footage, concluding that Taneja had established a strong initial case. The court’s order prohibits Nancy and her husband from approaching Taneja’s residence within a 300-meter radius and from any direct or indirect communication.
The case highlights the legal protection available to all individuals, irrespective of gender, against coercion and abuse. The complainant was represented by Advocate Divya Tripathi. The court also warned of contempt proceedings for any violations of the order.
