West Delhi’s Janakpuri neighborhood is reeling from a fatal accident that claimed the life of 25-year-old Kamal Dhanyani. The young biker, heading home late from his Rohini workplace, fell into a deep excavation pit, his body found alongside his bike the following morning.

Speaking to media, Kamal’s brother Karan lashed out at the authorities. ‘We hold the administration squarely responsible,’ he said. ‘No hoardings or warnings marked the dangerous spot. Police have offered condolences and support, but accountability is what we demand.’

Delhi Government Minister Ashish Sood conveyed his condolences during a site visit. Noting the area’s disruption from ongoing projects, he affirmed, ‘I’ve personally overseen safety arrangements repeatedly. We’ve launched a probe into this heartbreaking event and stand united with the bereaved family.’

Minister Prahlad Verma, accompanied by officials, revealed decisive steps: suspensions of three key Delhi Jal Board personnel involved in the site work. The road repairs had been underway for three months, with barricades every 100 meters. The fatal pit was freshly dug overnight in a no-traffic lane.

Labeling it a ‘deeply regrettable incident,’ Verma pledged financial aid to the family and enhanced safety protocols to prevent recurrences. The Jal Board has formed a committee, expecting findings in 24 hours. This tragedy highlights critical gaps in urban infrastructure management, especially under cover of darkness, prompting calls for better oversight across the capital.
