The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) convened a high-level meeting with senior officials from Air India and Air India Express, which together operate over 1,000 daily flights. The purpose of the meeting was to evaluate operational preparedness and ensure both airlines are adhering to safety standards and passenger service regulations. The DGCA highlighted seven key areas of focus, centered on maintaining regulatory compliance and improving operational reliability. The meeting also reviewed recent operational data, with specific attention given to Air India’s wide-body operations, including the Boeing 787 fleet. Between June 12th and June 17th, 2025, 83 flights in Air India’s wide-body operations were cancelled, with 66 of those being Boeing 787 flights. The DGCA recommended the implementation of a more systematic and real-time defect reporting mechanism to enhance decision-making and reduce disruptions. The meeting occurred in the wake of a tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad on June 12th that resulted in 270 fatalities.
