A somber development has emerged in the alleged suicide of a Maharashtra doctor, with the arrest of a suspended police sub-inspector. Gopal Badne, who was suspended from duty, surrendered to Satara police on Sunday and was subsequently taken into custody. This marks the second arrest in connection with the tragic incident.

The woman doctor, who died by suicide in Satara on Friday, reportedly left a chilling note inscribed on her hand. The message detailed alleged repeated rapes by Sub-Inspector Gopal Badne and ongoing mental and physical abuse spanning over five months. Alongside Badne, another accused, Prashant Bankar, identified as the landlord’s son where the doctor resided, has also been apprehended.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has pledged swift and stringent action against all individuals found guilty. He emphasized the seriousness of the situation, acknowledging the doctor’s desperate act of writing her suicide note on her hand. “No one will be spared. Strict action will be taken,” CM Fadnavis assured, while also cautioning against politicizing such a sensitive matter.

The victim’s family is demanding the harshest punishment for those responsible. A cousin revealed that the doctor had been subjected to significant police and political pressure to falsify post-mortem reports. “My sister should get justice,” they stated, echoing the sentiment for strict retribution against the accused.
