National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a meeting today, a significant diplomatic event preceding the upcoming SCO Summit. The discussions highlighted the improving dynamics between India and China.

During the talks, Ajit Doval noted a positive shift, stating that borders have been stable, and peace and tranquility have been maintained. He highlighted the substantial bilateral engagements and expressed gratitude to the leaders for setting a new direction during the Kazan meeting last October, which has yielded positive outcomes. He believes the current environment has facilitated progress in various collaborative areas.

Wang Yi also expressed his pleasure in meeting in New Delhi for talks on the boundary question. He acknowledged that past setbacks were not in the interest of either nation’s people. He referenced the meeting between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Modi in Kazan as a pivotal moment, setting the course for bilateral relations and providing momentum for resolving the boundary question.

The meeting follows crucial discussions between India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Wang, where they agreed to move forward after a period of difficulties. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to meet Wang Yi later today at his official residence. This visit marks Wang’s first to India in three years, potentially signaling an easing of tensions between the two major Asian countries.
