The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully conducted two consecutive tests of the Pralay missile from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast. The tests, which took place on July 28 and 29, 2025, were aimed at evaluating the missile’s maximum and minimum strike ranges. The Ministry of Defence confirmed the news on Tuesday. The missiles accurately followed their designated paths and successfully hit their targets during the tests. Data collected from tracking sensors and equipment on the test ship confirmed that all systems performed as expected.

Pralay is an indigenous solid-fueled quasi-ballistic missile, equipped with an advanced guidance and navigation system, and capable of carrying multiple warheads. The system’s development involved collaboration between DRDO’s Research Centre Imarat (RCI), other supporting laboratories, and industry partners like Bharat Dynamics Limited, Bharat Electronics Limited, and various MSMEs.

The tests were observed by senior DRDO scientists, representatives from the Indian Air Force and Army, and industry partners. The Defence Minister congratulated DRDO, the armed forces, and the industry for their achievement, stating that the missile system will provide a technological advantage to the army in addressing potential threats. DRDO Chairman Dr. Sameer V Kamat also extended his congratulations to the teams involved, noting that the success of these Phase-1 tests paves the way for the system’s early induction into the Army.
