Gen Upendra Dwivedi, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), inaugurated ‘Agnishodh’, the Indian Army Research Cell (IARC) at IIT Madras. This initiative aims to enhance the Indian Army’s technological capabilities and promote self-reliance in defense. The research cell will focus on upskilling military personnel in areas like additive manufacturing, cybersecurity, quantum computing, wireless communication, and unmanned systems. The collaboration extends to the IIT Madras Research Park and partnerships with the AMTDC and the Pravartak Technologies Foundation. During his address, Gen Dwivedi spoke about ‘Operation Sindoor’, describing it as a strategic operation involving precise, intelligence-led actions to combat terrorism. He highlighted the importance of indigenous technology and proactive security measures for India. The COAS also acknowledged the contributions of the IIT faculty towards nation-building through academic excellence. He shared insights into the complexities of ‘Operation Sindoor,’ likening it to a chess game with calculated moves and strategic risks. The operation involved a swift response following an event on April 22nd, including a crucial meeting with the Defence Minister and subsequent planning and execution of targets. The Prime Minister was briefed on April 29th. The operation, he added, united the nation, with the public closely following its progress and outcome.
