The implementation of revised Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates on September 22nd, coinciding with the Navratri festival, has been met with enthusiasm. The new tax structure, featuring rates of 5% and 18%, is part of what is being called the “GST Bachat Utsav.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his wishes for the occasion, highlighting the potential for Swadeshi initiatives and a self-reliant India. Consumers across the country are reacting positively to the changes. Alok Kumar Shrivastav from Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, noted the benefits for the poor and middle classes, including reduced prices for dairy products and automobiles. Narsingh Pathak also lauded the decision, particularly for the automobile sector, predicting savings of up to Rs 80,000 for those buying small cars. In Delhi, Ravi Shankar Kumar emphasized the advantages for middle-class families, citing lower prices on essential items like ghee, butter, milk, and ice cream. A shopkeeper, Naved, welcomed the government’s step, hoping it would further reduce milk prices.
