In a significant diplomatic stride, Jharkhand’s Chief Minister Hemant Soren landed in London late on Wednesday, kicking off a high-profile UK tour. The arrival was celebrated enthusiastically by local Jharkhand scholars and the Indian community, who rolled out the red carpet for the visiting leader.

Fresh from engaging global giants at Davos’ World Economic Forum, where his team extended invitations for investments back home, Soren was visibly moved by the reception. Posting visuals online, he wrote about feeling ‘overwhelmed and rendered speechless’ by the love shown, thanking everyone with a heartfelt ‘Johaar.’

His wife, Kalpana Soren, who is also an MLA, is traveling with the delegation. The trip’s centerpiece is tomorrow’s January 23 lecture at Oxford University’s renowned Blavatnik School of Government. Soren plans to delve into the nuances of fostering sustainable growth in mineral-rich, tribal states, highlighting real-world lessons, opportunities, and persistent challenges.

A key session will tackle sustainable green industrialization, ethical mineral manufacturing, and growth through inclusive investments. Esteemed panelists include Prof. Alpa Shah, expert in social anthropology and All Souls Fellow, alongside Prof. Maya Tudor, focusing on political strategy and governance.

The talks will spotlight Jharkhand’s commitment to nature-synced progress, a cornerstone of its vision. Making history as the state’s first CM to speak at Oxford, Soren is eager to present this model worldwide. He noted the ongoing push to harmonize development with ecology in tribal landscapes.

This international forum is set to elevate Jharkhand’s narrative, influencing investments, policy frameworks, and long-term sustainability efforts.
