The monsoon season in Himachal Pradesh has brought widespread devastation, with the death toll reaching 78 as of early July. The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) reported that 50 fatalities were directly caused by flash floods, landslides, cloudbursts, and electrocutions. Road accidents contributed to the remaining 28 deaths since the monsoon began on June 20. Mandi district has suffered the most significant damage, with numerous roads blocked and water supply schemes disrupted. Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri highlighted the extensive damage to public utilities and the ongoing efforts to restore essential services. He expressed concern over the intensity of the rainfall, emphasizing the government’s priority to save lives and provide relief.
