    Former Hurriyat Conference chairman, Abdul Ghani Bhat, died Wednesday evening at his home in Sopore. He was 90 years old and had been in poor health for several years. According to family sources, Bhat will be buried in his ancestral graveyard. The demise of Bhat has been mourned by several leaders including CM Omar Abdullah and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti.

    Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the Hurriyat chairman, stated that Bhat had been ill for the past few years, which led to his death. Mirwaiz mentioned he had just received a call from Bhat’s son informing him of the senior leader’s passing.
