Husband Murders Wife in Gorakhpur Market Over Property Dispute

A man fatally shot his wife in a bustling market in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred around 8 pm on Jail Road, under the jurisdiction of the Shahpur Police Station. The shooting is believed to have stemmed from a property dispute. The victim, identified as Mamta Chauhan, was with her husband, Vishwakarma Chauhan, at a photo studio when the incident took place. The assailant concealed a pistol in his helmet. He later used the weapon to kill his wife. The couple had been married for 15 years and had a 13-year-old daughter. They had been separated for the past 1.5 years. Mamta, originally from Khajni, was residing with her daughter in a rented accommodation near Geeta Vatika. Following the shooting, the accused remained at the scene for approximately 25 minutes, stating that he was deeply troubled by his wife’s actions. Police promptly apprehended the suspect and initiated an investigation into the matter.
