The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a significant weather alert across multiple Indian states. A yellow alert has been declared for Punjab, anticipating the onset of severe cold wave conditions in isolated pockets. This warning highlights the need for residents to prepare for sharp temperature drops and harsh winter weather.

Simultaneously, regions including Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands are on high alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall. The IMD forecasts intense downpours, potentially leading to localized flooding and disrupting daily life. The Andaman & Nicobar Islands are also bracing for a thundersquall accompanied by strong winds, adding another layer of concern for residents and authorities.

Coastal areas are not exempt from the weather warnings. Squally weather conditions are predicted along the south Kerala coast, the Lakshadweep area, the Comorin region, and the south Bay of Bengal. Similar conditions are expected along the Tamil Nadu coast and within the Andaman Sea. These alerts advise maritime activities to exercise extreme caution.

Further intensifying, squally winds are anticipated over the Gulf of Mannar, off the Sri Lanka coast, and across the south and adjoining north Andaman Sea. The most severe squally conditions, with high wind speeds, are expected over the south Andaman Sea and adjacent southeastern Bay of Bengal, posing risks to shipping and coastal communities.

In the nation’s capital, Delhi is facing a dip in temperatures. While the skies are expected to remain mostly clear, shallow to moderate fog is predicted during morning hours. The maximum temperature is forecast to hover around 25 degrees Celsius, with minimum temperatures dropping to a chilly 8-10 degrees Celsius. Wednesday saw the mercury plunge to 8 degrees Celsius, bringing a distinct cold spell to the city.
