Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil has firmly reiterated India’s stance on the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), emphasizing the government’s commitment to its decisions. Patil’s remarks were a direct response to comments made by former Pakistan Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Patil stated that the government’s decisions are solely in the nation’s interest and that they are not intimidated by perceived threats.

Addressing the status of the treaty, Patil confirmed that there was no change in the government’s position. He underscored that any decisions made regarding the treaty would serve the best interests of India. This comes after Bhutto’s statements regarding the treaty.

The Indian government’s response follows its decision to suspend participation in the IWT, a decades-old agreement on water sharing between India and Pakistan. This action is part of a series of measures taken in response to Pakistan’s alleged harboring of terrorism.
