India has strongly condemned China’s actions after an Indian national from Arunachal Pradesh was detained during a transit in Shanghai. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral and inalienable part of India, and China’s assertions to the contrary are baseless. The MEA emphasized that China has failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the detention of Prema Wangjom Thongdok, a UK resident, who alleged her Indian passport was deemed ‘invalid’ due to her birthplace being listed as Arunachal Pradesh. This incident, occurring during a 24-hour visa-free transit, is seen as a violation of international air travel conventions and China’s own regulations. India has lodged a strong protest with Beijing over the matter.
