An investigation is underway at a government hospital in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, following a disturbing incident where two newborns were reportedly bitten by rats within the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The babies, born the previous week, were discovered with injury marks, prompting immediate action from hospital staff.

The incident occurred in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of Maharaja Yashwantrao Chikitsalaya (MYH), a prominent hospital in the state. CCTV footage confirmed the presence of rats in the NICU. According to hospital superintendent Dr. Ashok Yadav, one infant sustained rat bites on its fingers, while another was bitten on the head and shoulder. Both newborns had pre-existing health issues. One of the babies was initially found abandoned in the Khargone district and brought to MYH for treatment. As of Tuesday, the condition of both infants was reported as stable.

Hospital authorities have been instructed to implement measures to prevent future occurrences, including the installation of robust grills to block rat access. Additionally, family members of admitted patients have been informed not to bring food into the ward.
