A controversy has erupted following remarks by Malda district TMC president and MLA Abdur Rahim Bakshi. The TMC MLA threatened to throw acid in the face of a BJP MLA. He warned that if the BJP enters the area, they will face social boycott. Bakshi’s comments, including threats to tear down BJP flags and beat up MPs, have sparked outrage. Senior BJP leader Amit Malviya condemned the remarks, questioning whether this was democracy or terror. The comments were made during a protest organized by the Block Trinamool Congress in Inayatanagar, Malatipur assembly constituency. The protest was intended to address the issue of attacks on Bengalis in other states and the insult to the Bengali language. The event was attended by local MLA and district TMC president Abdur Rahim Bakshi, along with Zilla Parishad members Abdul Hai, Rehena Parveen, and others.

Amit Malviya took to social media to criticize the TMC, highlighting Bakshi’s threat to throw acid in a BJP MLA’s face. He pointed out that this same individual had previously threatened to cut off the hands and legs of BJP, CPM, and Congress workers. Malviya stated that violence is not new for the TMC, but rather a part of their political culture. He suggested that such threats reflect how the TMC operates in Malda-Murshidabad, where illegal Bangladeshis and Rohingyas constitute Mamata Banerjee’s dedicated vote bank, questioning whether this is democracy or terror.

Earlier, from the stage, Rahim Bakshi made further controversial remarks. Without naming Siliguri’s BJP MLA Shankar Ghosh, he stated that any BJP MLA who calls Bengali migrant workers in the assembly Bangladeshi Rohingyas will have acid thrown in their faces to silence them. He called for the boycott of the BJP, stating that people in BJP-ruled states are being persecuted, and those supporting the BJP here are not protesting. He called on the public to boycott the BJP and tear down their flags. Meanwhile, Uttar Malda BJP MP Khagen Murmu held a 24-hour sit-in at the Chanchal police station, alleging false cases against BJP workers. He also threatened to beat up the BJP MP, calling the program undemocratic. Despite the backlash, the district president defended his remarks to the media, claiming he did not make any undemocratic statements.
