Forty-eight migrant workers from Jharkhand, stranded in Tunisia due to unpaid wages and food shortages, have been safely repatriated. These individuals, hailing from districts including Bokaro, Hazaribagh, and Giridih, faced a dire situation for three months. Their safe return was facilitated by social worker Sikandar Ali, alongside governmental and company-level interventions. Following directives from Chief Minister Hemant Soren, labor officials engaged with the distressed workers, understanding their plight. The Jharkhand government has pledged to support the returning migrants and their families through various welfare schemes. The Chief Minister’s office had been alerted to the workers’ predicament and promptly directed the State Migrant Control Room, under the Department of Labour, Employment, Training & Skill Development, to address the crisis. The workers were employed by PCL Prem Power Construction Limited and had been without salaries for three months, leading to severe economic hardship. This successful rescue highlights the government’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of its migrant workforce.
