    In Ranchi, Chief Minister Hemant Soren emphasized the government’s commitment to control sickle cell disease, aiming to improve the lives of those affected. He highlighted that the impact of the disease extends to the entire family, necessitating a comprehensive approach. Speaking at an event organized by UNICEF on Sickle Cell Awareness Day, he interacted with young people affected by the disease, stressing the importance of raising public awareness. He believes that the eradication of the disease is possible through collective efforts.

    The Chief Minister stressed the need for increased screening to ensure early detection and treatment. He noted that many people are unaware they have the disease, potentially passing it on to future generations. He advocated for increased screening, counseling, and providing necessary support like medication and other facilities. He also suggested screening newborns at birth to facilitate timely treatment. The government, in collaboration with organizations like UNICEF, is working to address sickle cell disease. Steps have been taken to improve the state’s healthcare system, including preparing health profiles for identifying and treating various diseases. The goal is to provide a healthy and secure life for future generations.

    He instructed the health department to ensure robust systems for testing and treating sickle cell patients. He emphasized the importance of providing timely blood transfusions and medication. The Chief Minister also highlighted the crucial role of health counselors in screening and counseling for genetic diseases. He suggested providing them with proper training and resources to enhance their services. He interacted with sickle cell patients Atiya Koshar, Sneha Tirki, Sanya Parveen, Vimala Kumari, and Abdul Hakim Ansari, learning about their experiences, challenges, and treatment. He encouraged them, emphasizing that the government is taking steps to address the disease. The Chief Minister addressed the challenges faced by the affected, including difficulties with education and assured that solutions would be found.
