A tragic incident in the West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand resulted in the drowning death of a fifth-grade student. The 12-year-old girl, Hasita Das, was attempting to retrieve a lotus flower from a pond when the accident occurred. She was with two friends at the time. Drawn to the beauty of the lotus flower, Hasita entered the pond, lost her footing, and quickly began to drown. Her friends alerted the villagers and Hasita’s family.
