Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, is set to become one of the major developed cities in the country. Plans are underway to introduce flash charging electric buses in the city. These buses will have a capacity of 135 passengers each, and the fare is expected to be 30% less than that of diesel buses. This announcement was made by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, on Thursday, July 3, 2025, after inaugurating the Ratu Road Elevated Corridor in Ranchi.
Gadkari also discussed cable cars and funicular railways. Addressing a public gathering at ATC Ground, he mentioned the pilot project for flash charging buses is starting in Nagpur, with the tender already approved. If the trial in Nagpur is successful, the buses will be introduced in Jharkhand.
These buses will feature comfortable, airplane-like seating and onboard TVs. Despite the premium amenities, the fare will be 30% lower than diesel buses. Gadkari stated that he is committed to approving the launch of flash charging buses in Ranchi, following the successful implementation in Nagpur, in response to a request by Sanjay Seth.
