Ranchi: Sarla Birla Public School hosted the grand inauguration of Jharkhand Model United Nations 2025 on Saturday, bringing together delegates from 55 schools across the state. This two-day event celebrated diplomacy, leadership, and global awareness. The opening ceremony featured a traditional lamp lighting, symbolizing the official commencement of this significant gathering.

During the orientation, participants were thoroughly briefed on parliamentary procedures, committee structures, and debate protocols. This was followed by ice-breaking sessions, group discussions, and interactive workshops designed to foster collaboration and confidence among the young leaders. Subsequently, students enthusiastically engaged in debates, caucuses, and resolution drafting, representing various nations and deliberating on critical global and national issues.

The simulated committees formed by the delegates tackled diverse topics of global and national importance. The World Trade Organization (WTO) reviewed the rise in global trade wars and their impact on the multilateral trading system. The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) debated the legitimacy of unilateral military interventions under the guise of humanitarian aid. The Lok Sabha analyzed the effects of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 (AFSPA) on civil liberties, the rule of law, and regional stability in Jammu & Kashmir and the Northeast.

Meanwhile, the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly discussed strategies for controlling illegal mining, referencing the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957 (MMDR Act, 1957) and state-specific regulations. Amidst complex scenarios, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), with objections from Palestine, Sudan, and the USA, focused on strengthening international justice and reforming the enforcement mechanisms of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ). The All India Press and Publication Media (AIPPM) committee deliberated on the Broadcasting Services (Regulation) Bill 2023 and its implications for freedom of expression in modern Indian media. The International Press Corps (IPC) discussed regulations pertaining to photography, journalism, and caricature artists. The Indian Premier League (IPL) committee debated the IPC Mega Auctions 26.

Students from Sarla Birla Public School showcased exceptional skills in leadership, teamwork, and critical thinking while interacting with peers from around the state. They presented innovative solutions to real-world challenges. The school campus buzzed with intellectual energy, inspiring delegates to think critically, act responsibly, and develop as global citizens.

The Principal, Manisha Sharma, commended the efforts of the student organizers, delegates, and mentors, emphasizing that programs like Model United Nations cultivate diplomacy, communication skills, and a global perspective. She warmly welcomed all delegates and teachers, encouraging students to participate actively, engage in meaningful dialogue, and adopt innovative approaches to global challenges. She further noted that such events foster essential qualities like diplomacy, critical thinking, leadership, and communication, paving the way for them to become true change-makers of the future.
