Jharkhand is set to revolutionize its Rabi crop seed distribution with a novel cluster-based approach. The state’s Minister for Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Cooperatives has directed the formation of clusters, each comprising 80 to 100 villages. The ambitious plan aims to develop each cluster as a distinct hub known for a specific, signature crop. This initiative was discussed during a crucial review meeting at Nepal House, where departmental officials briefed the minister on ongoing agricultural and horticultural projects. Under the Birsa Krishi Vistar Yojana, seeds will be distributed with a 100% subsidy, making them accessible to all farmers. The minister stressed the importance of accelerating project implementation and ensuring timely benefits reach the intended beneficiaries. Special emphasis is being placed on preparing for the Rabi season, with targeted awareness campaigns and workshops planned for pulses and oilseeds. To enhance outreach, these farmer sensitization programs will now be held at the panchayat level instead of the block level, ensuring greater participation from rural communities. Furthermore, a state-level agricultural trade fair is slated to take place in Ranchi in November. Officials have been assigned key responsibilities to ensure the fair’s success. Following a period of good rainfall, prospects for a bountiful harvest are high. Seed availability will be aligned with district-level demands as soon as paddy crops are harvested, preparing farmers for the upcoming Rabi planting season.
