A case of a one crore elephant theft has come to light in Palamu district. The mahout has absconded with the elephant. Fortunately, the elephant has a chip, which the forest department and police are using to trace its location. Narendra Kumar Shukla, a resident of Vindhyachal in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, filed a case at the Medininagar Sadar police station on Friday. Narendra informed the police that he received the elephant, named Jaymati, on a responsibility agreement from a person named Sangam Lal. Due to a lack of food and water arrangements in his village, he brought the elephant to Jharkhand. He entrusted the care of the elephant to Munna Pandey and Munna Pathak, residents of Mirzapur. The two became friends with Tarkeshwar Nath, the owner of another elephant. They arrived in the Jorkat area of Medininagar Sadar police station area of Palamu with the elephant. Narendra stated that he arrived in Palamu on August 11. He found the elephant and the mahout in the Jorkat area. When he returned to Jorkat on August 13, he discovered that both the elephant and the mahout were missing. He searched for the elephant in several areas of Palamu and Jharkhand, but neither the elephant nor the mahout were found. He finally filed an FIR a month later. Sadar police station in-charge Lalji said on Saturday that Narendra Shukla informed the police that the elephant is worth one crore rupees. An investigation is underway, and an FIR has been registered. The forest department has been informed about the chip in the elephant, which is being used to determine its location.
