The Karnataka government has placed the blame for the fatal stampede during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) IPL victory parade squarely on the team. The tragic event outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4 resulted in 11 deaths and multiple injuries. The government’s report to the High Court highlighted that RCB organized the parade without city police consultation or permission. A video featuring Virat Kohli, inviting fans to the free-entry celebration, was also mentioned as contributing to the massive crowd. The police had previously denied permission for the event. The government’s report details the lack of formal permission from the event organizers and the subsequent promotion by RCB, including Kohli’s video appeal. The confusion caused by an announcement requiring passes further exacerbated the situation. Poor coordination between RCB, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), and DNA Entertainment Networks Pvt Ltd, along with inadequate crowd management, contributed to the stampede. The government outlined the steps taken after the incident, including inquiries, FIRs, and disciplinary actions.
