The Karnataka government is set to enforce a ban on all types of plastic within temples managed by the state’s Religious Endowment (Muzrai) Department, effective August 15. Revenue Minister and Muzrai Minister Ramalinga Reddy announced this initiative, aiming to enhance cleanliness and promote environmental responsibility in these places of worship. The directive applies to every temple under the Muzrai Department’s purview. Penalties, including fines and potential criminal charges, will be imposed on individuals found using plastic within temple premises. Concurrently, a Dry Day will be observed in Karnataka on August 15, restricting the sale of alcohol for 48 hours due to Janmashtami celebrations.
